Decarcerate North Carolina Now: Let Our People Go

Decarcerate North Carolina Now: Let Our People Go (2020)

Between 1970 and 2010, North Carolina's average daily prison population quadrupled from 10,000 to 40,000. In 2020, we are witnessing the catastrophic intersection of mass incarceration and a deadly pandemic. At the premiere of this mini-documentary on December 30, 2020, there are approximately 30,000 North Carolinians in state prisons, where many people, including corrections officers, are being repeatedly exposed to Covid-19.

This mini-documentary takes an intimate and real-time look at the efforts of formerly incarcerated people to confront NC Governor Roy Cooper directly for his "violent inaction" and compel him to use his clemency power (for the first time!) to release people from prison early.
