Elkhorn City Project

Elkhorn City Project (2001)

Elkhorn City, a town of 982 people in eastern coalfields of Kentucky, was the site for a project on local community storytelling by youth in the face of the declining coal and timber industry that had been central to the regions economy.  Along with artist Jeskiah Maria Ross, I worked with the Elkhorn City Heritage Council and the American Fesival project on a multiyear residency to create a community engagement project.  The project included photography, spokenword and a public screening of their documentation work.

Produced with the American Festival Project, the Elkhorn City Heritage Council with support from the National Endowment for the Arts.
