After Hurricane Florence impacted coastal North Carolina a group of journalists and documentary filmmakers decided to support community journalism. The Media Resilience Fellowship offered technical support to community activists to tell their own stories. Over the course of several months we workshopped, trained and produced a series of six documentaries. These films were screened at nonprofits, faith centers, homes, and eventually broadcast on our statewide PBS station. Central to the process was the collaborators having input into how their stories were portrayed.
